Materials:

Yarn: 155 yds DK weight cotton yarn

Hook:
Size G/6 4mm crochet hook

Notions:

Tapestry needle
2-4 Sewing pins or clips
4” wide piece of cardboard

Size: Width: 11”; Length: 6”

Gauge: 16 sc x 22 sc rows = 4”

The pattern

Purse Body

Ch 32.

Row 1: Sc into the second ch from the hook and into each ch across. (31 sts)

Rows 2-60: Ch 1, turn, sc into each st across.

Fasten off.

Fold in half lengthwise and sew along both side edges.

Flap

Foundation Row: Ch 2, 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook. (3 sts)

Row 1: Ch 1, turn, sc in first st, 2 sc in next st, sc in last st. (4 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1, turn, [sc in next st, 2 sc in next st] twice. (6 sts)

Row 3: Ch 1, turn, [sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st] twice. (8 sts)

Row 4: Ch 1, turn, [sc in each of next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st] twice. (10 sts)

Row 5: Ch 1, turn, [sc in each of next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st] twice. (12 sts)

Row 6: Ch 1, turn. [sc in each of the next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st] twice. (14 sts)

Row 7: Ch 1, turn. [sc in each of the next 6 sts, 2 sc in next st] twice. (16 sts)

Row 8: Ch 1, turn. [sc in each of the next 7 sts, 2 sc in next st] twice. (18 sts)

Row 15: Ch 1, turn. [sc in each of the next 14 sts, 2 sc in next st] twice. (32 sts)

Row 16: Ch 1, turn. [sc in each of the next 15 sts, 2 sc in next st] twice. (34 sts)

Row 17: Ch 1, turn. [sc in each of the next 16 sts, 2 sc in next st] twice. (36 sts)

Edging round: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across, working into sides of rows, work 31 sc evenly spaced along straight edge of triangle, join with sl st to first st.

Fasten off leaving a long tail.

Pin flap to top of bag and whip stitch in place.

Fringe:

Wrap yarn around 3 fingers 2 times. Cut through both loops to create 2 strands of fringe. Holding these 2 strands together, fold in half to form a loop.

Using a crochet hook, pull loop through any stitch along purse flap. Pull ends of fringe through the loop and tighten.

Repeat for each stitch along purse flap.

Trim fringe to approximately 1” length.

Tassel

Wrap yarn around a 4” piece of cardboard 18 times.

Cut through all layers of yarn at one end.

Cut a separate 8” piece of yarn and tie tightly around the bundle of yarn at the other end of the cardboard. Remove cardboard. You should now have 18, 8” pieces of yarn, tied in the middle and folded in half.

Cut another piece of yarn and tie it around the bundle, about ½ inch below the top, to create the tassel.

Trim the ends until the tassel is approximately 3.5”. Tie tassel onto the top left-hand corner of the clutch, leaving approximately 1.5” of yarn for the tassel to dangle from.

Weave in all ends.
