We’re so lucky to have pets. See, for us, pets are a sweet aspect of our lives. But for them, we’re their whole world. They depend on us and love us.

That’s why I firmly believe in spoiling them whenever possible. One of my favorite gifts for dogs is this little dog coat.  Specifically this small striped crochet dog sweater.

This crochet pattern (for cats or dogs) is so cute and has two little holes for your pets front two legs. There’s ribbed banding around the neckline too so it’s extra comfy for the little fella.

This crochet pet sweater pattern is made out of a super soft worsted weight yarn. The plymouth hot cakes are acrylic wool blends with built in color changes. All the color shifts without having to weave in all the ends. This is the perfect snuggly yarn for a crochet pet sweater.  

Crochet pet sweater patterns don’t have to be intimidating. This little sweater is so easy to make and your dog will appreciate it so much during the colder months. You could even make it a little crochet pet hat to match.

Yarn: 
404 yds worsted weight yarn 

Hook: 
US size K/10½ (6.5mm) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge 

Notions: 
Scissors 
Tapestry needle 

Size: 
Length: 16 inches 
Circumference at widest: 13.25 inches

Gauge: 12 hdc x 8 rows = 4 inches 

Pattern uses US crochet terms.

Notes: 
Use a variegated yarn to make the stripes for you without having to change colors. Join at the end of rounds by making a slip stitch into the first st of the round. For rounds that start with a ch 2 or 3, make the slip stitch into the top of the ch.

PATTERN:

Row 1: Ch 37, hdc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch across, turn. (36 hdc)

Rows 2 & 3: Ch 1, hdc in the first st and each st across, turn. 

Row 4: Ch 1, 2 hdc in the first st, hdc in each st across to last st, 2 hdc in last st, turn. (38 hdc)

Row 5: Ch 1, hdc in the first st and each st across, turn. 

Row 6: Ch 1, 2 hdc in the first st, hdc in each st across to last st, 2 hdc in last st, turn. (40 hdc)

Rows 7-13: Ch 1, hdc in the first st and each st across, turn. 

At the end of the last row, do not turn. Bring the ends of the working row together and sl st to join. 

Rnd 14: Ch 1, hdc in the first st and each st around, join.

Rnds 15-25: Ch 1, hdc in each st around, join. 

Rnd 26: Ch 1, hdc in each of the first 2 sts, ch 8, sk 8 sts, hdc in each of the next 20 sts, ch 8, sk 8 sts, hdc in each of the last 2 sts, join. (2 ch-8 sps, 24 hdc) 

Rnd 27: Ch 1, hdc in each st and ch around, join. (40 hdc) 

Rnds 28- 31: Ch 1, hdc in each st around, join. 

Rnd 32: Ch 1, hdc2tog in the first 2 sts, *hdc each of the next 8 sts, hdc2tog in the next 2 sts, repeat from * around to last 8 sts, hdc each of the next 8 sts, join. (36 hdc) 

Rnd 33: Ch 1, hdc2tog in the first 2 sts, *hdc each of the next 7 sts, hdc2tog in the next 2 sts, repeat from * around to last 7 sts, hdc each of the next 7 sts, join. (32 sts) 

Rnd 34: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join. 

Row 35: Ch 3 (counts as first st), fpdc around next st, *bpdc around the next st, fpdc around the next st, repeat from * around, join. 

Rnds 36-45: Repeat row 35. 

Fasten off.
